I couldn't agree more with this. I've never heard anyone who was a customer of the solution ever say "we should definitely build something" when a perfectly good off the shelf option existed. But I have seen so many "critical" implementations get sidelined, pushed back and their feature sets trimmed until they were pretty much nonexistant, because a technical leader decided they could build a better CRM than Salesforce....
